Technology exists within the context of human experience. Only by effectively communicating our understanding of a given technology can we influence how others adapt and implement it. Organizations seeking to commercialize or adapt new technologies must clearly communicate engineering concepts, requirements, and solutions to business managers, customers, suppliers, collaborative partner organization, and often public policy makers. A technology and communications analyst with a multidiscipline background will help facilitate this communication.
I am a Technology and Technical Communication Analyst with over 20 years experience with computer systems, 6 years with systems engineering, and 2 years with wind energy policy. I have worked with multidiscipline engineering teams in the automotive, defense, chemical, financial, software, and test and measurement industries. Writing for these teams has helped me develop expertise in interviewing engineers and programmers, identifying and gathering essential information, and reorganizing and restructuring the information for the clearest and most effective communication. My experience includes:
I hold a Master of Science in Technical and Professional Communication from Lawrence Technological University (LTU) and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan. I served as a founding member of LTU's Alternative Energy Student Group and as the group's Vice President for the 2004-2005 school year. I facilitated a series of Delphi Inquiries into wind turbine siting issues to help Michigan's Energy Office develop wind turbine siting guidelines. In addition to wind energy policy, my graduate studies included:
I am a Senior Member of the Society for Technical Communication and participate in several special interest groups, including Environmental Safety and Health Communication and Scientific Communication.
An expert is someone who approaches every task as a challenge to improve their knowledge or skills. I believe in continuous learning and improvement. I continuously strive to find new ways to improve my knowledge and skills so that I may improve quality and effectiveness of technical communication.
I am expert with Microsoft Word. I have also worked with Excel, PowerPoint, PageMaker, FrameMaker, help authoring tools, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, VBA, REALBasic, HTML, and CSS.
