SPECIAL EVENTS
Raylin holds its anniversary dance every December where the admission to the dance is a new toy, which we donate on the air in conjunction with a local TV station's annual toy drive. August is our annual Spam-O-Rama cook off (you'd be amazed at what folks can do with Spam, and some of it is actually tasty). The last Sunday of every month is party night with refreshments, snacks and plenty of dancing! Every year Raylin dances with other San Diego cloggers at the Del Mar Fair and Christmas on the Prado in Balboa Park. We also dance at various street fairs and church bazaars whenever we can.

HOW THE CLUB FORMED:
Raylin was started in 1978 by Ray and Linda Schweinforth. Ray, a square dance caller, and Linda saw clogging at the National Convention. They came back home and hired Lucy Johnson to come down to San Diego every Sunday to teach a clogging class. Soon, Linda took over the teaching duties and formed Raylin, the first clogging club in Southern California. Early beginner classes had as many as 500 dancers! In 1986 Lelia began leading the group.

TRADITIONS & FUN CUSTOMS
Our beginner class has to pass a "final exam" where they dance to visual cues instead of verbal ones. They are then given a diploma and a pin of the club logo "clogger dude".
