Juliet Saltman

Julie has had solo shows at UCSD’s Institute for Continued Learning, 101 Artists’ Colony in Encinitas, the Del Mar Art Center, and the Winston School Gallery.  She is a fifteen year member of the San Diego Watercolor Society, where over fifty of her paintings have been juried into their monthly shows at the Showcase Gallery.   She was also a long-term member of the Del Mar Art Center where her work was continually displayed in bi-monthly shows.  Her collage painting “Kaleidoscope” was selected (by John Salminen, NWS Juror) for the 2007 summerlong Colorado Exhibit of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (7 states).  Her paintings were exhibited at the Carmel Valley Library in 2008, and the City Hall Gallery of Solana Beach in three of their Coastal Artists’ multimedia exhibits in 2008 and 2009.

Since moving to San Diego from Ohio in 1989, Julie has studied art in workshops with national notables Don Andrews, Dan Burt, Mary Braukman, Serge Hollerbach, and Arne Westerman, and local notables Elaine Harvey, Ken Goldman, Robbie Laird, Kate Fitzsimmons, and Carol Thomason.  She attends figure study studio classes with Annette Paquet (College of the Emeriti) and advanced watercolor studio classes with Diane Adams (Mira Costa College).

Julie Saltman says about her art:  “Color, shapes, texture, people, places and moods are all important in my paintings.  Because of my background in sociology and community action, and because I care about these issues I sometimes have themes of peace and justice in my work.  Sometimes I paint scenes from travels to far-off places.  But sometimes I just paint with joy and produce abstract fantasies.  I feel privileged to be able to transfer my feelings and thoughts into paintings, and to share them with any viewers of my work.”
