Headline JULY 18, 1840: Ignatz Neff and Anna Eva Roth married today. According to reports, the ceremony took place at the Courthouse in St. Louis, Missouri with Justice Fred Kretschmar presiding. The Justice's report states "I have this day joined in the bonds of Matrimony Mr. Ignatz Neff and Eva Roth residing in St. Louis. Given under my hand, this 18th day of July 1840."
Ignatz and Anna Eva were both German immigrants. lgnatz was born 11 May 1811 and died 5 January 1891 at the age of 79. Anna Eva was probably born 25 July 1820 She died at the age of 92 on 24 January 1913. They are buried at St. Michael's Cemetery, Paderborn, IL.
Ignatz Neff and Anna Eva Roth have living descendants today from seven of their children: Appolonia, Jacob, George, Katherine, Conrad, Mary, and Adam. More information about each follows. A daughter, Francisca, died on 17 July 1870, according to records at St. Michael's Church at Paderborn, IL. She was about 12 years old at the time of her death. There may have been another daughter, Margaretha, but no information about her is known at this time.
Appolonia Neff was born 14 Nov 1841 and married Lorenz Berkel on 4 Feb 1862. They had three children: Fred, Mary, and Ignata. Appolonia met an untimely death at the young age of 30 on 5 April 1872, and is buried at St. John's Cemetery in Smithton, IL.
Jacob Neff was born 12 January 1844 and married Elizabeth Ross on 29 May 1866. They had 11 children: Conrad, Ben, Marie (Mary), Joseph, Jacob Jr., Lena, Katie, Margaret, Appolonia, John, and Gerhardt. Jacob died at the age of 63 on 25 May 1907, and is buried at St. Michael's Cemetery in Paderborn, IL.
George Neff was born 16 November 1849 and married Louise Ebert on 6 November 1873. They had one child, George, Jr. George also married Catherine Goessling on 19 November 1876. They had nine children: Jacob, Mary, Charles, Benjarnin, Katherine, Antone, Mathilda, Elizabeth, and Josephine. George died at nearly 54 years of age on 1 November 1903, arid is buried at St. Augustine of Canterbury Cemetery near Hecker, IL.
Katherine Neff was born 8 May 1852 and married John Euler on 19 October 1876. They had seven known children: John, Elizabeth, Mary, Jacob, Adam, Theresa, and Katherine. Katherine died at 42 years of age on 15 October 1894 and is buried at St. Augustine of Canterbury Cemetery near Hecker, IL.
Conrad Neff was born 26 December 1853 and married Margaret Ebert on 7 September 1877. They had five children: Conrad, Mary, Adam, Igriatz, and August (Gust). Conrad died at the age of 63 on 1 April 1917.
Mary Neff was born 22 September 1855 and married Nicholas Cortner on 12 September 1876. They had twelve children: Nicholas, Mary, Margaret, Adam, Christina, Edward, Ella, Katherine, Conrad, Lawrence, George, and Albert. Mary died on 2 November 1955 at the age of 100.
Adam Neff was born on 19 February 1861 and married Katherine Fleckenstein on 30 May 1882. They had 11 children, but three died young. The others are: Appolonia, Frances, Ida, Peter, Clara, Gregory, Margaret, and Christian. Adam died on 4 July 1917 at the age of 56.
